I have noticed, and a lot of the other players too, that a large amount of the time we are just refreshing the screen just to see the latest chat messages.
However that means that the entire page is resent. There are two possible solutions to this. The first is to make the chat window a frame and have a refresh button that causes just the frame to be refreshed, ergo reducing server bandwidth. The other option would be to drop the table layout and go with a full CSS based one. I would be happy to help out with the html and templates needed. The full CSS based one would substationally reduce the bandwidth used by the site since the layout would be contained in the CSS which would be loaded once. i believe the separate frame option has been discussed before, but nothing came of it (don't remember why).

Doug is right, noone gets to touch or see the code :)
I am aware that frames can be used for chat, however traditional html frames I do not like. I do not know much about css but if it can give some good solution please let me know. Peter |
