I thought this could be of use to someone. I'll keep it going 'till I get bored. Post any feedback/questions you like.

--------------------------------------------------------------

New city - starting with 105 Nov/2 Exp/1 Mas.

First thing I do is vote, giving me a total of 320 ap.

Next spend 1ap to change attack retreat level to 10 (keep defence on 7 for now).

Hitting Show Map gives 3 blocks I want to take straight away - a 49RES, 60RES and a 94RES. There is also a 72RES/19COM, but as this one has more than one building type it is likely to be better defended.

First attack is 40 NOV to take the 49RES (costs 36ap) - win easily killing 5 for 3 lost and gaining a pistol and vest.

Next is 50 NOV to take the 94RES (costs 44ap) - another easy win and now time to check the map again to see if any better blocks have shown up.

A 63RES has shown up so I take that instead of the original 60 (only slightly higher, but it will open up more of the map). I send 50 Nov again (less may work but I can not afford to risk losing all my men. Retreat 10 helps you win but can also lead to a total wipeout if you are not carefull). Win again with a handy 11 kills (so 11 new EXP) but also 10 deaths.

I have been lucky - good blocks with attacks that have gone well. With 196 ap left, I would sometimes stop now so I still have full ap once the first turn runs. However, there are still loads of good blocks around me and I still have a lot of men....

I send 50 NOV to take a 79RES. Not good - it costs me 35 men, but at least I took the block. If I had not set the retreat to 10 at the start, there is a strong chance I could have lost the men AND not taken the block.

Thats it. I have 152ap remaining which I will carry over (spending more now would not be cost effective). I have 5 blocks, 32NOV/34EXP/1MAS. 3 pistols/2 vests, 262 food/628 cash. With a RES figure of 385, my average recruit when the turn rolls will be 38.5. That will give me enough manpower to take another couple of the good blocks around me and still keep my ap high...

More once the first turn runs.

First new day. Start with 252ap plus 20 for voting = 272ap. The turn was fair with recuitment of 38NOV (spot on the average). Food and cash is not worth worrying about for now. I will earn more than enough from taking blocks and on the turn to cover expenses.

Checking the ranking list, all the gangs around me bar one have taken no blocks. So I can move out in any direction except that one. I dont want to meet another expanding gang just yet...

First block to take is the 60RES from before. Sending 50NOV's is perhaps overkill and cost 40ap, but its better to be safe. Easy win with no casualties

Next block is 73RES 9FPL, again with 50NOV. Less of a walk over with 26 casualties.

And thats it for now. Down to 190ap with 7 blocks, 33NOV/49EXP/1MAS. RES value is now 518 giving an average recruit on the turn of 52....with luck I will have over 100NOV tomorrow and with the 310 ap after voting, should be able to take more blocks than just two (with a higher number of men, the ap cost goes down. Today was 40 - tomorrow should be around 25).

Next day: Have your secret attack plans intercepted by an irate gang and forwarded onto Crusty, who then shares it with all your intended victims, who then savage you and your friends brutally!

If I told you, it would ruin the fun!

Wouldnt ruin the fun for me! And no one else is reading this any way ;-)

Todays turn is more of the same. Managed to squeeze 4 blocks and will start tomorrow on full ap.

Think I will knock this on the head now. The idea is to continue like this until you can start taking blocks for 5ap (around day 6 or 7 is about right). At that point all that ap you are holding on to will give you a real advantage - 100 ap spent now is worth maybe 4 blocks. At 5ap its worth 20, allowing you to either crush an enemy or storm ahead....

RD - You could go back to your sent messages.... maybe the one you're interested in will still be there :-)

CFB - savaged brutally! almost an understatement!

Tried that already....its not there under sent items. Its a conspiracy I tell ya!

Although to be fair, it does not take a rocket scientist to work out that if I and Crusty are in the same war there is going to be a scrap. Its like some kind of Law ;-))

A bit like gravity ;-)))

not to hijack your thread but here's my breakdown for starting. It's risky and one loss will cost you a lot of men. but if you like a gamble:
10-34 res block 25 novices(for exploration purposes)
35-59 res block 30 novices
60-75 res block 35 novices
75-90 res block 40 novices
90-99 res block 45 novice
100 res block 50 novice

I save voting on games where a war is about to erupt or is in progress. 20 AP at the start of a game doesn't seem to go as far. I blow 200 ap fighting if all goes well. If I fail once I use 30 to recruit. Recruiting seems to peak at 30 ap. Has anyone else done any experiments with this?

I'm finding it's best to stay off any 90 res or better block before the game starts and always avoid a mixed block if you can help it. If you want to bloat your block count to scare people you can hit the a lot of 10-25 population blocks before the game even starts my personal record is around 15 of them. Bloating your block count only makes you a bigger target later in the game though.

Good rule is Res number divided by 2 plus 10. Then you are almost always certain of winning.

Yep, that math sounds good.

Still tend to stick to 50...so hate losing all men

Just don't look at the ranking in 350 right now because my formula don't work =)

I've gotten shafted too many times just taking 50 men. If it's over 89 RES, I always take 60. Also, always take 60 on mixed blocks. You'll lose 50 men quite often on them.

**If you have lots of guns, 50 men is safe, as the combat tends to terminate after one or two rounds**
