Thread: Which type of wrestler should I choose?

Each type has its own pros and cons, which are listed in the Wiki-based manual. In summary, they are:
Aerial: increased chance to connect with a move
Power Grapple: increased damage
Stiff Neck: less damage received
Technical: increased chance to counter a move
Traditional: increased chance of pin

However, there are a few other reasons why you may want to choose a particular type of wrestler which aren't obvious at first glance. They are as follows:

Power Grapple: Every wrestler gets 5 statistics. The usual advice is to use your action points and money to keep them all maximised. But PGs have an incredibly low Aerial statistic. So many PGs don't bother raising their Aerial statistic at all, and don't buy any Aerial moves. Instead they use their massive Strength stat and concentrate on buying Strength moves. This makes PG a good choice for beginners, as it saves them some AP, and gives them an easy strategy to follow.

Traditionalists: There are 5 types of matches that you can fight: singles, ladder, table, cage and Last Man Standing (LMS). The only matches that can be won by pins are singles. So Traditionalists often specify that they will only fight singles ... and other wrestlers often specify they'll fight anything but singles. This means that Traditionalist wrestlers tend to fight each other a lot. Also, singles provide the least money and fame (but also cost the least action points). So I suggest beginners don't choose Traditionalists ... the game could become boring very quickly.

One advantage that Traditionalists have is that tag team matches are fought according to the rules of single matches.

Technical: When the time comes to buy extra moves for wrestlers, you'll find there are 4 categories of move: strength, submission, technical and aerial. Many of the most expensive (and hence the most effective) moves are technical moves. So a Technical wrestler might be difficult to play at first (since counters occur far less often than regular moves), but will have an increasing advantage as the game goes on.

Aerialists: Aerialists are often good at matches where they have something to jump off. So they're a good choice if you like ladder or table matches. They also have reasonably good Technique stats.

Stiff Neck: These guys do well in cages. Their Strength stats are second only to Power Grapplers.

Interesting summary, but here's where you went wrong: The only match specialists in the game are Traditionalists. Aerialists DO NOT have an inherent advantage in Ladders or Tables, nor do Stiff Necks have an inherent advantage in Cages.

there are also other factors not stated which go into that very general description of the styles.

I could tell you, but some things are only earned with experience.
