Thread: Building stables
Post by: yar(35506)

As one of the bigger stables I have realized that we need a better system to help building them.
Some stables have gone to mandatory donating for stable members to help compete with other large stable. people generally feel they shouldnt have to pay large amounts of money to be in a stable, even a good one.
I think it would be better to do away with the donating option for stables and replace it with a certain % of winnings going to the stables you are in. 5% sounds like a good rate.
I would appriciate hearing ideas from other people on this issue, so I can submitt something to peter on this issue, so I ask you to stay on topic please. This will benefit all stables accross the board.

Sounds good to me - could it be built into the 'Staff' section?

In what way John?

That is a brilliant idea.

Really, truly brilliant. I saw on another game where it worked like this.

If you are not in a group and you make $500, you get $500.
If you are in a group and you make $500, you get $500 and your group gets X amount.

Just thought of a problem of replacing it.

Stables would grow at same rate or stables with more ap would grow faster because of more moves.

Perhaps add it instead of replace it.

:S :S i was gonna suggest a similar thing lol :D

good one Ray, cos i sure will find it hard remembering to donate that $500 a week. When do i have to do that btw? lol now?!? :S

The 'Staff' section removes a percentage of your fee for your doctor, coach + trainer each match - I thought a similar system could be used to donate cash to Stables - Level 1 Donation 5%, level 2 Donation 10% possibly.

Having been stuck in a meeting at work for the last hour, with nothing better to do, I had time to think some more about this ...

Although, in principle, a good idea, the problem that I keep coming back to is this - what is stop an unscrupulous Stable Leader from letting a player join the Stable to fill a vacant slot (say for example a regular stable member is away from VOW for a period of time + leaves the Stable while absent) and then as soon as the old player comes back to VOW, or a 'better' option applies to join, and then throwing out the player who took that place originally?

I know building a Stable costs a lot of money, and Stable 'owners' spend a lot of time/effort getting the right people in there - but there has to be some safeguard to protect players who have donated to a Stable from being kicked out and effectively losing all the money they've previously donated.

I dont think there should be any protection, the best protection is like 5% automaticaly taken per match and given to your stable, that way no big amounts of money are lost.

WOW! stop. 5% or 10% donations to stable, would be hard to work out who's paid what and who's put in most! some lose more, hence less going in. Why not implement a system that shows how much people have put in. This would help my stable as then they see who has put in what so they can all even it out.

Aiden you owe.... *gets out calculator* ... carry the 1, divide the 6....411,000? Think i made a mistake ;(

there would be no evening it out, there are donators and non donators to stables. I think my system is best over all to help all stables increase in size.

When you belong to a stable and have a match 5% automatically is given to your stable of any winnings. this will beefit stables in a couple of ways.

1, they will be able to increase the size of there stables without asking for donations from the members.

2, It will enable smaller stables to catch up to bigger stables, as the price for new members increase.

3, peole wont feel they have to decide whether they want to belong in a good stable or buy moves with their cash, they will be able to do both.

I have not heard a valid reason why this would be a bad idea so far.

A valid reason you agree with you mean Ray :P

How about the old chestnut - Coding issues :D

And I still think that if this becomes automatic rather than by choice, it is open to abuse by unscrupulous Stable Leaders, so protection has to be given to players to protect their own investments in the Stable. Maybe the option of throwing ACTIVE players out of a stable should be removed (if they leave by choice, then that is their decision). Once a player has been inactive for a week, then the 'Throw Out' option can be activated.

I do like the idea of automatic donations, but I also think there has to be safeguards for players whose money has helped develop the Stable over a period of time

Ok to solve that how about the stables recieve 5 % of the winnings but doesnt come out of the players money. that way your stable gets paid for winnings but the members are not paying for it at all?

Like i said, some people win more, hence more going in.

Need a system to show how much each member is putting in.

here is something to think about. if the stable automatically gets 5% the bigger stables would just keep making more and more money since they have more people that fight. so the small or new stables wouldn't be able to keep up. I could be wrong though.

tay ncfc I heard what you said, keep track of it your self, you cant expect peter to hold your hand all the time.

And since bigger stables have to spend more money per member the little stable would spend less and catch up to them some, would they ever catch up to a bigger stable? Maybe, it would then depend on how active the members were.

In any case it would be better than the system we have now, where we have to ask members to donate. Which personaly I hate to do, But if you dont ask them to donate to the stable, the majority wont. and even though you may have a good stable, if a lessor stables members donate more they will pass you and appear in the rankings to be better, which isnt always the case.

What the heck you on about? I suggested something, you say some crap about holding hands, you suggest something but I don't come up with rubbish.
Post by: yar(35506)
2007-06-18 16:27:37
Thats exactly what it is rubbish, we are trying to work out a better system for building stables, not keeping track of how much members donate, why dont you start your own thread and address that issue.
Post by: tay ncfc(183846)
2007-06-18 16:48:58
It's a joint issue. Surely someone who has just added a 500 a week from each stable member system would like to know whos put in what from their matches?
Post by: yar(35506)
2007-06-18 16:56:28
Yes AJ, and I do keep track of it, I have my members tell me when they donate and I keep a record of it. Its really two differant issues though.
In order for peter to even concider it, it needs to be simple and straight forward. I just dont want to over complicate it by adding other issues. I am trying to get donating done away with in favor of a better means of building a stable.

2007-06-18 20:08:26
Definitely, i think the whole idea of this is great. And i also keep tracks of who's donated and who hasnt. I was just giving an idea, that if we won matches with a % from the pay or an additional % pay, that we could then see how much people still owe. if that makes sence.

Ya, after giving it some more thought i can see what you mean and it would be helpful. good idea bud

Frankly, I don't like the idea. People have complained about stables not having a purpose before, do you really want the purpose to be giving people in stables an innate disadvantage? I think stable donation should be left to those who can afford it, it shouldn't be forced upon people.
Post by: yar(35506)
2007-06-19 20:57:15
How is it being forced on anyone if stables get money for the matchs you fight above what you earn, it wouldnt affect your pay at all.
I know I wont let anyone in my stable thats not willing to donate, and I am sure I am not the only one.

2007-06-19 21:35:19
I didn't see that statement. Now the problem is the fact having a large stable will be devalued. Now anyone, with no additional effort, can build a large stable. Do we really need more large stables anyway? I like things as the are now; you want a large stable, you work harder than normal. Being in a big stable is testament to the efforts of its members.

I'm sorry, I just can't see the point of this idea, it doesn't look like it'll do anything either fun or useful.

W-w-w-w-wait. That is a very interesting and true point.

Changed my perspective completely. That is a fatal flaw.
That would devalue all the super stables immensely.

To build a stable all you need is some board, nails and hammer. And if you want to get fancy and build a roof, get some rooftiles or something.

Why would you want to build a Stable anyway? Unless there's a sudden explosion of donkey-riding pregnant virgins, surely there's enough stables around already :P

Heres my view.

Instead of taking money from the match the winner gets the regulary pay and then 5% from it automatically would be brought into your stable.
But in your by your name there would be a slot and it would have how much money you earned for your stable. Then there would be another storage slot and that would tell you how much you donate out of the money you have in the next slot. The first slot would be a storage place of the possible money you could donate and then if you wanted to donate some but keep alittle in your slot then the next slot which would be Total Donation from *WHOEVER*
